Human Resources Department

Welcome to the Acorn IT Group Human Resources Department. The HR Department is concerned with the health, safety, happiness, growth, and development of our staff. HR develops fair and reasonable policies for personnel management and coordinates employee benefit programs. Most people gain familiarity with this department through the processes of recruiting, hiring, and training our outstanding staff.

The Acorn IT Group's HR Department oversees recruitment and personnel matters for all business units and divisions within the Acorn IT Group, including for Acanthus Technology Design, Allogro, ClientKeepers, Sacramento Online Services, and the Acorn IT Group itself. This helps streamline many procedures, avoids duplication of efforts, and increases our negotiating power with our benefits suppliers, all of which helps our employees.

On this page you will find information about work opportunities for potential employees and independent contractors (ICs). On another page, there is information that helps explain differences between the two. Elsewhere we maintain a fairly large library of documents from various state and federal agencies that cover health and safety issues, employee rights, taxes, and much more. The library is meant for ongoing use by our staff, not just during the hiring process. Current staff members should also check in the staff intranet site for additional information.

Opportunities within the Acorn IT Group

The Acorn IT Group is always looking for conscientious, dedicated, and knowledgeable individuals to work with us. We offer full and part-time employment, and we work with independent contractors and consultants in a variety of specialties.

We are committed to diversity in the workplace, and we do not discriminate based on nationality, race, ethnicity, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, marriage or parenthood situation, education, veteran or military status. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply for consideration.

Please understand that the information contained on this web site is general in nature and may not apply to all situations. Nothing on this web site should be construed as an offer of employment or a guarantee thereof. All terms and statements on this web site are subject to modification at any time. Employees will be subject to the terms of their contract and applicable company staff manuals.

Independent Contractors and Consultants

Over the years, we have developed a terrific network of subcontractors. In today's ever-changing, fast-paced IT world, it is impossible for any company to be an expert in every field. Our network of independent contractors and consultants results in a win-win-win situation.

First, our clients receive top-notch service in a wide variety of areas. Our subcontractors receive additional business that helps their bottom line. We benefit by being able to call on specialists as-needed and knowing that the job will be completed satisfactorily.

Some people don't understand the important differences between an independent contractor and an employee. The most obvious difference is that contractors are responsible for paying their own employment and income taxes, and employees are subject to withholding. We provide a lot of additional information on this topic along with a checklist you might find helpful.

If you are an existing sole-proprietorship, partnership, LLC, or corporation with a business license, please complete our Independent Contractor Application form for consideration.

If you do not have a separate established business, or if you are applying for an hourly contractor position, please complete our W2 Contractor Application form for consideration.

All information in the application package, including licenses and certifications, will be verified. Applicants will be investigated through the Better Business Bureau, Chambers of Commerce, D&B, and/or similar agencies.

Employment

Please review our current job announcements bulletin to see jobs for which we are currently recruiting. Please note the application deadlines for each position; late or delayed applications will not be considered.

We hire full-time and part-time employees. Formal education, work experience, and certifications may all be considered if they relate to the position, unless a position states that a specific requirement is mandatory. Whether you have a lot of experience but not a lot of education, or if the opposite is true, evaluate the job description and apply for any position you feel qualified for, even if your background does not match the "ideal" description listed in an announcement. For many positions there are pre-employment exams that test specific skills directly related to the position, and the results of such exams will be considered along with coursework, experience, and certifications.

Applicants are asked to complete a job application and provide personal references. Resumes and cover letters are optional, but greatly appreciated, and become part of the application package. All information in the application package, including past employment, education, and references, is subject to verification; if we are unable to verify certain information, you may be asked to provide proof of the claim. Inaccurate, false, or misleading information, along with omission of material which could be reasonably expected to affect an employment decision, regardless of when it is discovered, will be grounds for disqualification or immediate dismissal.

All offers of employment are contingent upon the results from background checks and clean drug tests. Offers for positions that involve driving vehicles are contingent upon a clean driving record. Offers for positions involving finances, cash handling, or loans of company-owned equipment to employees are contingent upon acceptable credit checks.

We do not currently sponsor or assist alien workers in obtaining work authorization in this country. All employees must provide proof of their legal right to work in the United States by the third day of work, or they will be dismissed.

Employment is "at-will" and may be terminated by either party, with or without cause, at any time. All employees are subject to an initial probationary period of 90 days or 400 working hours, whichever period is greater. During the probationary period, eligible employees accumulate leave time in accordance with company policies, but they are not eligible to receive other benefits (e.g., health insurance, etc.). Eligible new employees are encouraged to continue their existing coverage (e.g., through COBRA) until their probationary period is completed and their selected benefits fully take effect.
